New Gemini AI features and upgrades for Google Sheets.
On Wednesday, the Mountain View-based tech giant announced in a blog post that it is introducing new capabilities and improvements to the Gemini AI tool for Google Sheets. The company stated that the rollout began on October 20, with the full deployment of these new features expected to take up to 15 days.
These additions are available to users with Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Premium, Gemini Education, and Gemini Education Premium plans, as well as those with the AI Add-on. For administrators, these new features will be enabled by default for users who already have access to Gemini in Google Sheets. Other users can access these features by clicking the “Ask Gemini” button located in the top-right corner of the sidebar within their spreadsheets.
As part of this update, Gemini in Google Sheets will now display the specific web sources referenced for each cell. The company states that this helps users verify AI-generated data. This cell-level source attribution also allows users to more clearly “review, verify, and cross-reference the output.” In the web version of Google Sheets, source information for each cell will be visible to users.
Furthermore, the Mountain View-based tech giant stated that enhanced processing power will result in faster response times. At the same time, the Gemini feature in Google Sheets now offers better consistency across cells. It is claimed that for tasks involving 500 cells, the process is 55 times faster than manual entry. Additionally, Gemini in Google Sheets now supports up to 3,000 cells per request, enabling users to summarize, categorize, and process larger volumes of data in a single operation.
